New Honorary President: John Martin

Congratulations to John Martin, who was appointed as our Honorary President at the 2020 Annual General Meeting. John will serve in this prestigious role during 2021 and 2022 in recognition of his loyal service to our club.

John Martin is very well known and respected in Man O’War GFC and around Fingal. John played for Man O’War in the Fingal League during the 1950’s and 1960’s and was a very reliable, skillful and stylish half back.  He was part of the team that won the club’s first trophy in 1954 – The Nugent Cup in the Fingal Junior League. John played alongside his brother Bertie on that team.

John was a driving force behind Man O’War fielding juvenile teams at U14, U16 and Minor levels in the sixties and early seventies, players that formed the backbone of the team that won the club’s first ever Junior Championship in 1979.

Although living in Skerries since his marriage to Lil, John has remained a lifelong supporter of the club and maintains a keen interest in how the club is developing and expanding. The Club Executive looks forward to collaborating with John over the next two years.
