November and December 2019

Notaí Chlub na Míosa: 30ú Nollaig 2019

Nuacht / Club News

A successful 2019 is drawing to a close. So much has happened during the closing weeks of the season both on and off the pitch.

There was a very good turnout at our AGM on Monday 25th November. Chairperson Damien Duffy, Secretary Catherine Livesey and Treasurer Dermot Sheridan presented their annual reports. The new Executive Committee for 2020 was formed and can be viewed here. The latest version of our Child Safeguarding Statement can be viewed here.

All of our fundraising efforts continue to help towards running costs and development projects. Thanks to everyone who supported our recent fundraisers:

  • Our Ladies 1st Team hosted a bagpack in Moriarty’s Supervalu Balbriggan on 30th November.
  • Our Senior Men’s teams and Ladies 1st Team hosted a fun and successful Christmas Car Wash on 21st and 22nd December and provided refreshments while customers waited in the clubhouse.
  • Watch out for details of the GAA National Draw 2020. Tickets cost €10 and we hope to have another winner from our club this time around. All proceeds will go back into our club.

We continue to maintain strong community links. The Juvenile Committee organised another great Halloween disco on 29th October and our junior coaches were a great help on the night. Siobhán O’Connor accompanied Brian Howard and the Sam Maguire Cup to Balrothery and Hedgestown national schools on 8th November, Milverton having enjoyed a visit prior to that. We welcomed the Man O’War Senior Citizens to our clubhouse on 5th December for their annual Christmas mass and dinner. Hedgestown NS held their Christmas show in our clubhouse on 12th December. But who will ever forget Fionn’s Parade of Lights, a collaboration between volunteers from our club, Country Crest, Loughshinny Motorcycle Supporters Club and North County Dublin Macra in memory of beautiful Fionn Flavin Anderssen and as a fundraiser for three charities. Tom Hoare led our team of volunteers to host the registration and the reception afterwards at our clubhouse for an amazing convoy of 200+ illuminated vehicles that travelled through Lusk, Rush, Loughshinny, Skerries, Balbriggan and Balrothery.

Each of our younger teams paraded into the hall, received medals for participation and enjoyed refreshments. They also enjoyed a visit and a gift from Man O’War’s very own Santa Claus. Final Team Round UpTuairscí agus Torthaí

The home and travelling support was as brilliant as ever in the final weeks of the season and all of the teams extend their thanks to you.

On Sunday 27th October, the Men’s 1st Team Junior 1 Championship semi-final away against Craobh Chiaráin went to added extra time after 0-12 apiece at full time but alas did not finish in our favour. Hard luck lads. Joe Greene has concluded his three-year term as Manager of the men’s team. Thank you Joe and best of luck in your future endeavours.

The Dublin Junior Champions, our Ladies 1st team, finished up a successful season as runners up in their Division 3 league final against Ballinteer St John’s away on Sunday 3rd November. Well done to Willie and the Ladies, who now expect to play in Division 3 in 2020.

Our Minor Ladies were belatedly notified in early December that they had in fact won their Division 4 league before the summer. A missing result clarified the situation. The Minor Ladies were invited to join the Juvenile Recognition Event on 7th December to receive their league medals.  Well done to the Ladies and to their mentors Siobhán, Tony, Liz and Frank.

The U16 Boys had a very busy end of season. Following a win in their B Shield Quarter-Final away to Robert Emmets on 2nd November, the lads lost out to a strong Parnells in the Semi-Final on 16th November. Then following a convincing win away at Robert Emmets in the Division 4 league semi-final on 23rd November, the league final was away to Whitehall Colmcille’s on 30th November. Despite a very close first half, the final score did not go our way this time but the players, mentors and supporters stayed on the pitch long after the final whistle to recall a great season and to once again honour the memory of their beloved coach Stephen Melia.

Our U15 Girls lost out to O’Tooles in their Division 4 Championship final on Saturday 26th October. Hard luck girls but treasure your county medals all the same – win or lose, it is a rare event and a great achievement. Well done to the players and to mentors Colin, Stevo and Anna.

The U13 Girls beat Fingallians in their Division 6 Shield final on Saturday 26th October. A huge congratulations to the girls and to mentors Catherine, Michelle, Lorraine and Paul.

Some of our final Go Games team fixtures fell foul to unplayable pitches in November. Our U10 Girls enjoyed a blitz in Skerries and our U12 Girls, mentors and parents did a great job hosting their autumn blitz.

Juvenile teams and our Nursery section held a variety of end-of-season team outings. Training for many teams and the Nursery continued right up until December and all teams are now on a break before the new 2020 season starts.
